“Professor Frankenvalley?”
“Yes, Algore.”
“Can you fix my inconvenient tooth?”
“Frau Bloomer insists your hump is of higher priority!”

When Magenta Theater’s former house band (Bad Agent) left in 2013 to pursue non-theatrical music opportunities, Jaynie Roberts, Artistic Director for Magenta, vowed that one day Magenta would have another band.  The theme of desiring a band, runs through the script of Dead Beats, except in this fantastical tale, it is Professor Frankenvalley wanting one.  Why?  To participate in the Transylvania Music Festival, of course!

Our hostess throughout the show is Frau Bloomer, a rather unfortunately featured woman with a penchant for speaking in a severe Austrian/German accent, interspersed with the occasional French word.  The ever-present servant, Algore, houses more than secrets in his hump, while Cyril the Monster complements the band with his enviable finger-snapping.  And what a band it is!  Created by the professor using ‘this, that and the other’ picked up in the local cemetery.

The band plays a variety of Halloween-appropriate songs and there is family-friendly banter to accompany the numerous dance numbers.  The only real thing missing is a lead singer for the band.  And that’s what Frau Bloomer plots throughout the show….only to be foiled by an unexpected visitor!

This production is in addition to the regular mainstage season and promises to be the first of many escapades involving Professor Frankenvalley, Frau Bloomer, Algore and Alveena!
