The Gnome & Fairy Gala is the traditional May First Friday theme in Downtown Camas but this year the “gala” will be going virtual and extra days will be added to the fun. The gnome and fairy online activities will start on Sunday, April 26 and go through First Friday, May 1, ending with a Facebook Live event on the Downtown Camas First Friday Facebook page at 5:00 p.m. to announce the week’s winners.
Local businesses will continue to be a part of these First Friday activities. On Thursday and Friday there will be a Virtual Gnome & Fairy Gala Passport activity where participating businesses will have gnomes or fairies gracing their Facebook page. You write down what each are doing on the passport and the passport enters you to win downtown merchant gift cards compliments of the Downtown Camas Association.
Art gallery virtual tours of Attic Gallery and Camas Gallery will also be posted during the day on the First Friday Facebook page. Learn more about the galleries and local artists and experience new art.
The daily “Gnome & Fairy Gala” games will be launched with posts on the First Friday Facebook Page each morning starting April 26. You can play one game or all and the intention is for people to engage and post and enjoy what others post, too. People are asked to use #camasfirstfriday on each post so all posts can be tracked easily. The more you play and post, the greater your chances for winning.
“The main goals of First Friday have always been to connect people, promote downtown businesses, provide activities that the whole family can enjoy together and to create some fun memories!” says Carrie Schulstad, director for the DCA. “We’re hoping that even in these different times that we can accomplish some of these same goals. We are all missing everyone and would love to see our First Friday regulars and new folks posting and having fun! We ask for patience and a sense of humor as we adapt our First Friday activities!”
The Daily Gnome and Fairy games and challenges include:
Sunday – Gnome & Fairy Costume Contest: Post your costume photo and the BEST Fairy and the BEST Gnome costumes will win!
Monday – TIK TOK Gnome Dance Challenge: Post your best gnome dance on TIK TOK
Tuesday – Where’s the Gnome or Fairy?: Find the Gnomes and Fairies in the posted photos
Wednesday – Fairy Photo Scavenger Hunt: Take a picture of specific fairy items and post
Thursday – Fairy Door Game: Try to choose one of the winning doors in the “Fairy Doors” Photo and post your favorite flower, too.
Thursday & Friday –Virtual First Friday Passport: Connect with all the merchants downtown through their Facebook pages to win prizes. You have until 3:00 p.m. on Friday to complete.

Two lucky winners will also be drawn from all of the entries of the First Friday activities to each win $50 worth of gift cards to Downtown Camas shops and restaurants. The Downtown Camas Association is donating all the gift card prizes to support downtown businesses during this time and is grateful for all the community support of downtown during the social distancing closures.
