There are few things people of the Pacific Northwest love more than their dogs and craft brews. So when Heathen Brewing – one of the best-known breweries in Clark County – decided to christen their new outdoor patio, they invited patrons to quaff with their pups in tow to support of the Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s (HSSW) Walk/Run for the Animals’ fundraiser.

“We are dedicated to our community and proud to be the beer sponsor of this great fundraiser that helps so many dogs and cats,” explains Sunny Parsons of Heathen Brewery. “Kicking things off with Yappy Hours on our new Feral Public House patio is a fun way to get things rolling before the big event.”

The second and final Yappy Hour will take place on Saturday, April 21 at Heathen Brewing’s downtown Vancouver location. Adults 21+ can enjoy $1 off pints.  HSSW staff will be on hand, and everyone can enter raffles for Walk/Run vintage-gear prize giveaways every 15 minutes and sign up for Walk/Run on May 5 at a special rate. Kids are welcome! A portion of food sales is also being “gifted” back to HSSW.

A third registration “pick-up” event on the brewpub’s patio on Thursday, May 3 from 3 – 7 p.m. will allow Walk/Run participants to collect their event bag loaded with items such as Barkery dog treats and event materials. Runners will be able to pick up their numbers in advance of Saturday’s race day, and fundraising prizes will be distributed.

As the beer sponsor at the Walk/Run for the Animals event, Heathen Brewing will provide each registered walker and runner age 21+ two free brews in the beer garden. First place runners in each qualifying age bracket also get coupons for free beers.

“Yappy Hour at the Heathen Brewing is a wonderful way to bring people and their pets together to boost excitement about the Walk/Run,” says Stacey Graham, President of HSSW. “It gives us the opportunity to bring new customers to the taproom. Walk/Run fundraising teams can inspire each other over a brew, and everyone can have fun learning about ways to get involved in the event…along with their dogs.”

The Walk/Run is a dog-friendly three-mile walk or 5k chip-timed run on Saturday, May 5, at Esther Short Park in the heart of downtown Vancouver from 7:30am to noon. Registration for the event is available at hssw.org/walk-run. Monies raised through Walk/Run for the Animals support adoption services, medical support, food and shelter, and support for community programs benefitting more than 8,000 animals each year.

Join us for the final Yappy Hour of the year!
