The Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW) begins 2019 with two new staff members. Cynthia Galbreath, DVM, joins HSSW’s animal care services as a veterinarian and Caryl Zenker steps into the role as Vice President and Director of Development.
“We are delighted to welcome these two skilled professionals to our organization,” says Stacey Graham, President of HSSW. “They each exemplify our values and will further our mission to rescue, return restore, rehome and reconnect animals in our community.”
For the past year, Galbreath has provided relief veterinary services throughout the Pacific Northwest, including at HSSW. Prior to that, she worked for five years as an Associate Emergency/Critical Care Veterinarian at VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists in Clackamas, Oregon where she performed emergency procedures and managed the hospitalized intensive care patients.
Zenker brings more than 15 years of experience in development to HSSW. She served as Vice President of Development for four years at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and was the Executive Director for The Zoo Society in Tacoma, Wash. Most recently, Zenker was Development Director at POIC+RAHS, a non-profit social justice organization.
People + Dogs + Cats…the Humane Society for Southwest Washington
We are the matchmakers in the business of completing families. In 2018, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington (HSSW) sheltered more than 8,000 animals offering adoption services, Safe Haven temporary housing, low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, and medical care. HSSW facilitated more than 5,200 adoptions in 2018 alone with 25% of all adoptions coming from the Portland area. In addition, HSSW distributes 15,000 pounds of pet food each year in collaboration with Clark County Food Bank. HSSW is a proud member of the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP) along with nine other animal sheltering organizations. More than 950 volunteers work with HSSW animals, and provide laundry services, assistance in the clinic, ReTails Thrift Store support, event assistance and outreach activities. ReTails Thrift Store is owned and operated by HSSW and recently was named the “Best Thrift Store” in Clark County by The Columbian poll. Likewise, HSSW was named the “Best Nonprofit” in Clark County for 2017.
