Submitted by Humane Society for Southwest Washington
The staff at Northwest Personal Training is all about health and fitness and they are dog owners who love animals. When they decided to raise funds for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington’s (HSSW) Walk/Run for the Animals, they combined the things they enjoy the most. On Saturday, April 27, Northwest Personal Training will sponsor a morning 5k run or walk with dogs followed by mimosas at their studio, and a separate yoga session where participants can bring their dogs, called DOGA. DOGA’s class size is limited to 10 people and their pets. The 5k run or walk with dogs is unlimited in size and open to the public.
“We wanted to do something prior to the big day (the Walk/Run for the Animals is on May 4), that goes with our mission, our love of animals, and raises funds at the same time,” says Sherri McMillan CEO at Northwest Personal Training. “We thought a pre-function run or walk with our dogs the week before would be an active way to socialize with everyone and get to know each other’s dogs.”
Mutts & Mimosas – Saturday, April 27, 10:30 a.m. – noon
The assembled pack will leave from Northwest Personal Training’s downtown Vancouver location at 1011 Broadway, run or walk along the new waterfront, and continue along the Columbia River trail. Led by personal trainer, Molly McGarry, participants (and pups) will return to the studio to toast their accomplishment and raise a glass in honor of HSSW’s Walk/Run for the Animals with mimosas. A $35 donation for Mutts & Mimosas will send 100 percent of the funds to Walk/Run for the Animals. The event is open to the public. Register by calling 360-574-7292.
DOGA – Saturday, April 27, noon – 1:00 p.m.
After Mutts & Mimosas, personal trainer Alicia Rose will conduct a yoga session for 10 people and their dogs. “The dogs are present and may choose to participate, but they aren’t directly involved in the yoga moves,” McMillan explains. “It will be a unique experience and fun time to bond with your dog.” The classes will likely include some barking, whining, treat chewing, and various other distractions. All dogs must be house trained and get along with other dogs. The cost to participate in DOGA is $100 with 100 percent of the funds going to the Walk/Run for the Animals.
Northwest Personal Training has been involved in Walk/Run for the Animals in prior years, but this marks the first time they formed a fundraising team. “We are delighted by the imagination they put into these events to raise funds for the shelter, medical care, food, and personal attention that our dogs and cats need,” says Stacey Graham, President of HSSW. “This is the true spirit of Walk/Run for the Animals – helping animals, having fun and connecting with the community.”
In addition to coordinating efforts on April 27, Sherri McMillian serves on the Walk/Run Committee and Northwest Personal Training will have a vendor booth at the Walk/Run for the Animals event on May 4.
