Washougal Arts & Culture Alliance (WACA) remains hopeful that current stay at home orders and social distancing guidelines will be lifted in time for the 2020 Washougal Art Festival planned for Saturday, August 8 at Reflection Plaza in downtown Washougal. To prepare, they are continuing their Call for Artists with a deadline for electronic applications of May 1.
The WACA Board hopes the future will be clearer by June 15 when they plan to make a final “go, no go” decision. “We will look to our local and state authorities for direction on whether the event will be possible,” said WACA president, Kelli Rule. “In the meantime, we want to be prepared to move forward just in case it is deemed safe to resume this type of activity in early August.”
The popular event, now in its fifth year, is open to visual artists working in all media and is intended for professional artists who are actively producing and exhibiting their work to sell. All entries will be juried based on originality, creativity, craftsmanship, and professionalism. Judging will also consider the expression of a unique vision and style, and the mastery over the artist’s chosen medium. Artists are selected for festival participation by a jury of local artists and gallery owners.
“Festival artists will be selected by May 31 but will not be charged a vendor fee until we get the green light to hold the event,” Kelli explained. “If it is still not safe to gather in groups, we will come up with another way to help promote these selected artists and connect them with the regional community of art lovers.”
Festival and entry information is available for artists on the WACA website at www.washougalarts.org.
