The 2020 Student Stride for Education, the long-standing student challenge and family fun-run to enhance public education in Washougal, has introduced changes this year due the schools’ closure and stay at home orders in place.  The event will be ordered as a virtual run, open to anyone and free of charge. To keep with the tradition of timed runs and spark healthy competition, participants will be able to record their times at washougalschoolsfoundation.org/virtualstride or via social media using the hashtag #wsfstride.

A fun tradition surrounding the event is the contest among Washougal students to create the unique yearly logo.  The 2020 logo was designed by Aubrey Timmons, a 6th grader at Jemtegaard Middle School and features a happy cat running in full stride.

“We see this virtual Stride as an opportunity to continue to show support for local students, provide an opportunity for the community to come together while maintaining social distancing, and continue the momentum we’ve established as a foundation,” said Jennifer McDonald, Stride Team Leader. “We’re a tight-knit community with a strong drive to give our students every opportunity. It’s nice to know that this event will be able to keep a tradition alive, strengthen our community and build relationships.”

The 17th annual Student Stride for Education will take place over a week, from Sunday, May 10th to Saturday, May 16th. During that time, runners are encouraged to submit their distance and time online at www.washougalschoolsfoundation.org/virtualstride.
