Below is an update on the Tech Center Drive Safety Improvement Project. As you may recall, this City of Vancouver grant-funded project seeks to provide bike and pedestrian improvements, help slow traffic and make travel safer for all. The City’s contactor for this project is Halme Excavating of Battle Ground.
As previously noted, construction was briefly on hold due to hazardous air quality conditions from wildfires throughout the region and then due to rain.
To date, the contractor’s crews have removed existing curbing and has constructed new curbs and the two new ADA-accessible ramps between SE Tech Center Place and SE Sequoia Circle. The contractor has also removed old striping and installed new double yellow center line and the bike lane lines on SE Tech Center Drive, from SE Tech Center Place to just south of Mill Plain Boulevard.
The remaining striping/pavement markings on the project will be done in two phases, as major alterations to the existing layout near Mill Plain cannot be done until signal camera and upgrades have been completed/installed. The map, below, shows areas to be addressed under this phased approach.
In the Phase 1 area, the contractor will be installing some thermoplastic pavement markings, dependent upon weather and availability of the subcontractor.
In the Phase 2 area, the rest of the striping from Mill Plain heading north onto SE 172d Ave will be completed as soon as the new signal cameras at Mill Plain and SE 172nd intersection have been installed. We currently anticipate this to take about three weeks, pending approval of materials.
Please note: Construction of speed cushions on SE 167th Avenue is also part of this project. That work will require a one-day closure of SE 167th Avenue. We do not yet have a tentative date, but advance notice will be provided as soon as that becomes available.
Construction hours are generally 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., but may continue as late as 8 p.m. and include weekends as indicated. Please continue to watch for construction crews working in and along streets and corners. As a reminder, you can read more about the coming improvements on the Columbia Tech Center Drive Safety Improvement Project webpage.
Thank you in advance for your patience and for your support of this project.
