“Go Green!” is the theme for the March 1st First Friday event which features Lucky Leprechauns, Eartha the Clown, a “Green Zone” with family friendly activities with local non-profits that care for the environment, art shows and artist demonstrations, ribbon cuttings, eco-friendly smoothies and the wearing of the green. The event runs from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Each participating merchant will have a “lucky leprechaun” in their business, and for every leprechaun you find, you receive a prize ticket to be entered to win “green” prizes. Lucky leprechaun “passports” can be found at the Downtown Camas Association (DCA) tables at Journey Church at 304 NE 4th.

Eartha the Ecological Clown will be on hand from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in downtown with her Moluccan cockatoo “Major.” Eartha teaches earth awareness, appreciation for all life, and the importance of saving what we have for future generations. Young and old can take their picture with Eartha and “Major.”

Camas Bike & Sport will be in front of Journey with a special bike that is set up with a blender to make free “blender bike smoothies”. This is in collaboration with Squeeze & Grind, a local coffee and smoothie shop downtown.

Wander through the “Green Zone” at Journey church and learn how easy it is to make this world a greener place with fun educational kid-friendly activities and giveaways provided by local nonprofits. The nonprofits include Master GardenersWorld Vision, EOCF (Educational Opportunities for Children & Families), and Columbia Springs Repair Clark County. “This is a fun one!” says Carrie Schulstad, Executive Director for the DCA, about this First Friday event. “Our merchants and community do a lot to be environmentally conscious and this event showcases that. The Green Zone helps teach families why protecting the environment is important and how to make a difference. Eartha and her Cockatoo Major are favorites! And this year we have smoothies! Come enjoy all that this free event offers in Downtown Camas.”

First Fridays are Art, Activities, Dining, and After Hours Shopping themed family friendly events coordinated by the DCA each month of the year to support downtown and develop community.
