Do you have a favorite bench spot in Downtown Camas to sit and enjoy the town? You will now have the chance to add a personalized touch to one of these key amenities in Downtown Camas. The Downtown Camas Association (DCA), in collaboration with the City of Camas, is launching an Adopt-A-Bench Program to help replace downtown benches and further enhance the inviting aesthetic Camas is known for.

Benches in Downtown Camas are over 20 years old and many are broken or in disrepair. Replacing the benches will continue to improve the quality of the experience in downtown and the Adopt-A-Bench program allows you to commemorate family, friends, or special events by adopting one of the new benches in the downtown district through a tax-deductible contribution to the DCA.

The contribution amount includes the placement of a new bench and a plaque to be engraved with your desired inscription. Through collaboration with the DCA, you will be able to select the placement of your bench at one of the available sites. Bench adoption is $3,000 and is renewable after 15 years.

“We are excited to have new quality benches in Downtown Camas!” says Caroline Mercury, the Chair of the DCA Design Committee. “Refreshing the existing bench sites and adding more, will enrich the welcoming vibe and function of downtown. This is an opportunity for citizens to participate in their community by adopting a bench that creates an inviting, accessible place to linger and enjoy the downtown district. We’re hoping that being able to support downtown and add your own personalized touch will be meaningful to the community. We want to thank the City of Camas and Columbia Cascade for being strong partners in this effort.”

The Downtown Camas area now has seventeen benches with three new locations on tap. The DCA has committed to fund the three new bench sites to kick off the program. Benches will be a craftsman style sourced by local manufacturer, Columbia Cascade, located in Downtown Camas. You can find more information on the program and how to apply to adopt a bench at the Downtown Camas Association website.

The DCA works year round to strengthen and promote Downtown Camas through partnerships, events, beautification and historic preservation projects, economic development, advocacy, and tourism functions. For information on the DCA and downtown events, visit the Downtown Camas Association website.
