City of Washougal Welcomes Spring with Outdoor Community Fair

Submitted by City of Washougal

Spring is here! On Saturday, April 29 the City of Washougal encourages residents to spend the afternoon at Hathaway Park for the Hello Spring Community Fair from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. This event features a free hot dog lunch, giveaways, educational activities, and more.

“The City of Washougal is very excited to host Hello Spring for the second year,” noted Community Engagement Manager Rose Jewell. “This event provides a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get outside and experience Washougal parks after the long, dark winter. Come and enjoy the afternoon!”

This event brings together several community organizations to educate and entertain residents on all things spring. The City of Washougal’s Stormwater Division will be generating awareness on stormwater maintenance. Waste Connections of Southwest Washington will be giving out recycling, garbage, and yard debris information. Washougal Community Library will host a craft tent. American Red Cross Cascades Region will share safety information about the Sound the Alarm program, an initiative to install 50,000 smoke alarms nationwide.

Free Hot Dog Lunch

City staff is pleased to partner with the Washougal School District to provide 400 free hotdog lunches, with chips donated by Frito Lay, to event goers. Meals are first come, first served, while supplies last. The City also wishes to thank IQ Credit Union for providing cotton candy and event sponsor Vancouver Toyota.

“Washougal School District is proud of our strong partnership with the City of Washougal and we are excited that our existing contract could help the city purchase food for the event at a lower cost,” said Margaret Rice, Director of CTE and Culinary Services. “Our students are also excited to be part of the event, to have a real-world service opportunity and to contribute to our community. Events like this make Washougal a great place to live, learn, and work, and we’re happy to be part of the fun.”

Passport to Spring

Passport to Spring is a fun activity where kids visit booths around the event and answer multiple choice questions to get a stamp. When they get a minimum of 10 stamps, they bring their card back to the City Hall booth for a prize.
