Black Chair Project utilizes the bare minimum of rehearsal time.  We use a set consisting of black chairs and black tables in front of whatever happens to be onstage at the time, actors dressed in basic black, whatever lighting is available, and a collaboration of actors providing their own props and sound effects.  Rehearsals are exhilaratingly fast paced!  Everyone functions as part of the machinery speeding along to produce high-quality and entertaining staged readings.

MAGENTA THEATER’S NEXT BLACK CHAIR PROJECT is an expertly-timed reading of “THE SLEEPER” by Catherine Butterfield. The world changed on September 11, 2001 for all of us – in a myriad of different ways. One suburban mom, shell-shocked by the new post 9/11 reality, finds herself irresistibly drawn to her son’s tutor, a handsome young man with political leanings far different from her own. Her “awakening” leads to a bizarre series of events that blows the lid off her previously sheltered existence and changes the lives of all around her. Play contains adult language and situations. Not recommended for children.
