The Southwest Washington Wind Symphony showcases music by contemporary women composers at its performance entitled “Women of Note.” The program includes Khan by Julie Giroux with its energetic driving rhythms depicting the conquests of Genghis Khan’s army. Other selections include Volver a la Montaña by Shelley Hanson inspired by folk tunes from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia and Chasing Sunlight by Cait Nishimura reflecting on the brilliance of a sunset and the pursuit of one’s dreams. The SW Washington Wind Symphony is a 55 – musician, professional quality concert band in its 13th season.
